Who is who from here?
Also, does anyone know of a good website that gives me a crash course in the games workings? I know the stats my ranger needs to be concerned with but when it comes to selecting gear from quest rewards I really have no clue.

It's sorta simple... you CAN subscribe if you want.. that unlocks everything, or alot of stuff ( i think ). Otherwise.. you pay nothing.. and have to earn "favor" points... which you get from running dungeons and such, then purchase some of the things you want.
They also just sell the points if you are inclined to buy them, but again.. you dont need to.. it just takes longer then to accquire the points to purchase the stuff u want in store.
But again... you don't ever have to buy any points or subscribe

it is free and guess what? as you do quest and gain factions with group you get 25 points that you can spend at the DDO store to get items. also as your total Favor grows you get things as well. last night I just unlocked the Drow Race which is locked unless you either get Favor or spend points
